Mount Pisco is the perfect peak for first time mountaineers. The ascent to its summit via the West face is non-technical and, despite its relatively low height compared to its neighbours, there are jaw-dropping vistas from the top.
The ascent is little more than a hard trek and as such is ideal for those wishing to take the step from trekking into the world of mountaineering. It is also ideal as an acclimatisation peak for experienced climbers wishing to tackle higher mountains later on.
It will reward the novice with their first unforgettable experience on snow and ice, using ice axes, crampons and ropes. At base camp, prior to attempting the summit, our highly experienced and fully qualified guides will show newcomers how to use the equipment, so they are familiar with it while traversing the glacier on the way to the top.
The 360º panorama from Mount Pisco’s broad summit is one of the most impressive in the whole of the Cordillera Blanca, studded with the ice-capped peaks of Mount Huandoy (6395m), Chopicalqui (6354m), Huascaran South (6768m) and North (6665m), Chacraraju (6112m), and Artesonraju (6025m) in all their glory.
Although no previous mountaineering experience is required, it is important to be physically fit, in good health and well acclimatised to take part in this expedition, as well as having prior experience of trekking at high altitude.
